Chief Justice issues COVID-19 administrative order
Chief Justice Charles T. Canady is actively monitoring developments related to COVID-19. He has urged preparation and readiness. In service to that he has issued an administrative order.
“The health and safety of judges and court staff are a top concern for me, as well as those who come into our courthouses and courtrooms seeking justice,” Chief Justice Canady said to chief judges and administrative leaders throughout the state. “At the same time, the mission-critical work of the courts must continue, and over the years we have done extensive planning for different types of emergencies, including pandemics, so that we can be prepared to continue our work when an event like this one occurs.”
The Court Emergency Management Group of the Florida Supreme Court has convened. Updates are being provided to court leadership and designated Emergency Court Officers. Guidance about travel on court business has been issued encouraging in-person meetings be replaced by alternative virtual means, where possible.
The Court Emergency Management Group has met to set COVID-19 communications and action in motion. Jurisdictions throughout the State Courts System have been reminded to review plans and inform employees of strategies for reducing transmission of all infectious diseases.
